Gennady Axelrod A Jewish Businessman Was Murdered in Ukraine


Gennady Axelrod A Jewish businessman the founder of the World Lamp organization, was killed  (Saturday) afternoon in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.

One of the most influential Jews in the Ukraine was murdered on Shabbat, one week after a Kiev yeshiva student was brutally attacked.


Police said that Ginadie Axelrod was assassinated in Dnepropetrovsk by an armed bicyclist because of large debts and not because of anti-Semitism. The Jewish community was shocked by the murder and demanded that police find the killer and bring him to trial.

Last week, Aharon Alexander was attacked as he left the central Kiev synagogue Saturday night. A donor flew him to Israel two days later on a private plane for medical care, and he is in serious condition in a Tel Aviv hospital.

The murder of Axelrod came three months after Axelrod, Ginadie Korban and Oleg Levin suffered injuries when a homemade bomb exploded under a sofa in a Dnepropetrovsk café where their were eating, according to media n the Ukraine.

Axelrod and Levin were part owners of a financial consortium that owes a large sum of money, Their company reportedly filed for bankruptcy two years ago, allowing the company to avoid paying off its debts.
